The Steam Hospitality Incubator is a virtual small business incubator for underrepresented founders.

Founders from diverse backgrounds have told us time and time again they felt alone when starting their business. As minority founders ourselves, we also felt lost at the start of our business journey.

After all, women and minority-led startups make up a small and disproportionate amount of new businesses that receive funding and venture support.

We felt frustrated by how hard it was to get access to resources, support and opportunity in the highly competitive food and hospitality industry, so we started Steam Hospitality incubator programs and offer a variety of business services to connect underrepresented founders to resources, funding and built a support network of highly motivated entrepreneurs that add to the Steam Incubator ecosystem.

Together, we succeed. Steam’s support network is the key to helping food and hospitality founders launch highly successful businesses.

What is an incubator?

A small business incubator is a business development program designed to help startups succeed.

Small business incubators help entrepreneurs by supporting them through some of the challenges involved in founding and launching a new business venture such as coaching, workflow analysis, supply chain, software configuration, and marketing strategy.

There’s different types of incubators including technology incubators and restaurant incubators.

Steam Hospitality is a hospitality and technology incubator which means we specialize in brands in the food, beverage, hospitality, technology, and service industry.

Steam also offers a business services with sliding scale pricing and payment plans for earlier-stage startups.

What makes Steam Hospitality different?

Why choose the Steam Hospitality small business incubator?

Well, there’s many reasons our incubator program could be the right fit for you.

1. There are no other fees and we do not take equity from you. We believe that you should own your business, so retaining your cash flow and equity is important for your success.

2. Steam specifically helps launch food, technology and hospitality brands. Other incubators serve different niches or they don’t serve any particular niche, which can be ineffective for a network-important industry such as food, technology, and hospitality.

3. Steam’s team is diverse and inclusive. Steam was not only founded by an underrepresented founder, but Steam’s business consultants also include people from a variety of backgrounds.

4. Steam has a strong network of retail buyers and venture capitalists in the food and hospitality industry. Other incubators don’t have such resources relevant to food and hospitality companies.

5. Steam does not have a physical space. This allows us to save on overhead costs and pass these savings on to our clients in the form of additional resources for you.

6. Steam provides multiple consultants per each of our incubator clients. Our ratio of consultants to business is higher than the average compared with other incubators. This means you will have multiple people helping you get stuff done instead of just one.

7. The Steam Team is socially conscious. Other incubators are profit-driven with no accountability or standards regarding sustainability and diversity.

8. Steam offers personal, 1-on-1 relationships. Other, larger incubators are not able to provide the same levels of intimate relationships like we do.

9. We work for you even when you’re not working. We don’t expect you to do everything. We’re out promoting your business, hosting events, and tabling your product even when you have the day off.

10. Steam’s program is online and remote. Other programs require you to take time out of your busy schedule and to be physically on-location for weeks at a time. This is not sustainable if you’re a parent, caregiver, student, or unavailable to travel.

What does Steam ask for in return?

The Steam Hospitality small business incubator only accepts diverse and socially responsible founders. We are on a mission to help underrepresented communities thrive in the business world and we won’t settle for less.

In exchange for helping your business succeed, we ask for a 10% net-profit share every quarter.

There are no other fees and we do not take equity from you.

Be weary of other incubators who may act like your landlord and charge a monthly rent or service bill. These incubators are focused on profits, not people. Steam’s priority is to create a better-represented world, not to get rich-quick.

Steam is your partner that only grows when you do.

Our Experience

MMiranda-2+(1).jpg

Steam Hospitality is founded by Tabetha Zimmerman, an underrepresented founder who’s spent 10+ years in the hospitality industry working with the world’s largest international luxury hotel brands, including the Four Seasons.

In the hotel industry, Tabetha has managed multi-million dollar budgets and her area of expertise lies in online marketing, strategic partnerships, sales, and budget writing. Tabetha’s work in the hospitality industry has garnered multiple achievements and awards, including AAA Five Diamonds, Michelin Stars, and most recently the "Innovation To Watch" award from the Fancy Food Show.

After her work with luxury hotels, Tabetha decided to leave the corporate world and launch her first company. Within a year, that company was generating 6-figures in net-profit and was then sold to a competitor.

After the exit, Tabetha organized the knowledge and resources she gained in the industry, formed the Steam Hospitality team.

Our team of consultants includes industry leading professionals including a Chief Executive Technology Officer, Director of Finance, Creative Director, Webmaster, Chief Technical Engineer, Director of Marketing and Events, Vice President of Engagement, and Vice President of Human Capital.

Our team is leveraging our resources to help diverse food and hospitality founders launch, scale, and prepare their brands for a possible exit.

In the first year of starting Steam Hospitality’s small business incubator, we’ve helped over 80 founders grow their business.
